COOKING & PREPARATION:
Ingredients:
• Spaghetti pasta
• Water
• Salt
• Pasta sauce of your choice (marinara, Bolognese, pesto, etc.)
• Optional: olive oil, grated Parmesan cheese, fresh herbs, vegetables, protein (meatballs, chicken, shrimp, etc.)
Instructions:
1. Boil Water:
• Fill a large pot with water and bring it to a rolling boil. Add salt to the water; a general guideline is about 1-2 tablespoons of salt per gallon of water.
2. Add Spaghetti Pasta:
• Gently add the spaghetti pasta to the boiling water. Stir the pasta immediately after adding it to prevent sticking.
3. Cook the Pasta:
• Follow the package instructions for the recommended cooking time. Spaghetti is often cooked until “al dente,” which means it should be tender but still have a slight firmness when bitten.
4. Test for Doneness:
• About 1-2 minutes before the suggested cooking time is up, start testing the pasta for doneness. Take a strand of spaghetti and taste it to ensure its cooked to your preferred texture. Remember, pasta continues to cook slightly after draining, so it’s better to undercook slightly than overcook.
5. Reserve Pasta Cooking Water (Optional):
• Before draining the pasta, you can reserve a small amount of the pasta cooking water. This starchy water can be added to your sauce later to create a smooth and cohesive pasta dish.
6. Drain the Pasta:
• Once the spaghetti is cooked to your liking, carefully drain it in a colander placed in the sink.
7. Combine with Sauce and Toppings:
• In a separate pan, heat your chosen pasta sauce over low to medium heat. You can use a store-bought sauce or prepare your own. If using olive oil, heat it in the pan.
8. Mix and Serve:
• Add the drained spaghetti to the pan with the sauce and toppings. Gently toss everything together to ensure even coating.
