COOKING & PREPARATION:
Ingredients:
• Thinly sliced pork slices (sliced for Shabu-Shabu)
• Assorted fresh vegetables (e.g., Napa cabbage, bak choy, mushrooms, carrots, broccoli)
• Tofu or other preferred hot pot ingredients
• Shabu-Shabu dipping sauces (e.g., ponzu sauce, sesame sauce)
Broth:
• Prepare your choice of Shabu-Shabu broth. Traditional options include kombu (seaweed) broth, chicken broth, or a mix of both. You can also use ready-to-use Shabu-Shabu broth available in stores.
Instructions:
1. Heat the Broth:
• Pour the Shabu-Shabu broth into the hot pot and turn on the heat to bring it to a gentle simmer. Keep the broth at a low to medium heat throughout the meal.
2. Cook the Pork Shabu:
• Using chopsticks or small tongs, dip a slice of the Kurobuta Pork Shabu into the simmering broth. Swish the pork slices back and forth (shabu-shabu) in the hot broth for just a few seconds until it changes colour and becomes cooked. The thin pork slices cook very quickly.
3. Dip and Enjoy:
• After cooking the pork slices, dip it into your choice of Shabu-Shabu dipping sauce (ponzu sauce, sesame sauce, etc.) and enjoy! Combine the pork slices with the fresh vegetables and other hot pot ingredients for a delightful mix of flavours.
4. Continue Cooking and Eating:
• Repeat the process with the remaining pork slices and ingredients. Continue cooking and enjoying the hot pot as you go, adding more ingredients to the broth as needed.
5. Finish with a Noodle Course (Optional):
• After enjoying the pork slices and vegetables, you can add noodles (such as udon or vermicelli) to the remaining broth to create a delicious noodle soup to conclude the meal.
Note: Cooking times for the pork slices will be short due to their thin slices, so make sure not to overcook them.
